The main event for this weekend is the Tour de France Grand Départ, but there's plenty more going on too, from operas and outdoor cinema screenings to live music and... well, you'll have to keep reading to find out.

1. Tour de France Grand Départ

What’s On: After a week filled with concerts, performances, giant figures and much more for Tour De France Festival, it’s now time for the Grand Depart.
There will be fan park by Arc de Triomf each day until 8pm (6pm on Sunday) where there will be big screens, BMX shows, spaces for kids to learn to ride a bike and more!
Highlights
Thursday 2nd July – Team presentation parade from Sant Pau to the Sagrada Família.
Saturday 4th July – The Tour begins with the opening team time trial in Barcelona
Sunday 5th July – Stage 2 finishes in Barcelona

2. Free Entry to Museums

What’s On: On the first Sunday of the month many museums offer free entry, so you can explore Barcelona’s rich culture and history for free!
Here is a list of museums and their free opening times, but do double check their websites as some may require pre-registration.

While this year’s Tour de France starts in Barcelona, did you know that Tarragona, and Granollers were also chosen to be the starting line for this year’s cursa (race) too?
The full event takes place from 4th to 26th July. Get ready for the Tour by learning some words in Catalan that are cycling (ciclisme) related!

3. Barcelona Rock Fest

What’s On: One of Spain’s biggest rock and metal festivals takes place just outside Barcelona this weekend, with three days of live music in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
This year’s lineup includes Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, The Offspring, Megadeth, Powerwolf and Bad Religion, alongside dozens more bands across multiple stages.

4. Opera Festival in Gràcia

What’s On: Gràcia hosts a week of opera, with intimate performances designed to make the genre more accessible to new audiences.
This year's programme includes La Traviata, Tosca and a special Three Tenors Gala, performed at the historic Oratori de Sant Felip Neri.

Plan Ahead: Free Concert at the Sagrada Família

What’s On: Ok so this isn’t this week, but the ballot for this opened yesterday. So if you want a chance of going, you’ll need to enter it ASAP.
The Sagrada Família hosts a special one night only concert as part of the Grec Festival, celebrating the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death and the festival's 50th anniversary. The performance brings together the Cor Cererols choir with singers Lídia Pujol and Maria Arnal for an atmospheric evening of music under the basilica's interior.
📅 When: Fri 17th July (10pm)
📍 Where: Sagrada Família
Free tickets are allocated by ballot (entries close 5th July).
