3. Catalonia Beyond Fuet: Dancing Eggs & Vocabulary [AD]

Discover one of Barcelona’s most curious traditions: L’Ou com Balla (The Dancing Egg). It may sound absurd at first, an egg balancing and “dancing” on top of a fountain’s water jet, but it’s surprisingly hypnotic. The tradition dates back 700+ years and takes place during the Corpus Christi celebrations. Together with the beautiful flower carpets that decorate streets, it forms part of a celebration where water, flowers and eggs symbolise fertility, life and regeneration.
The most traditional place to see it is at the Cathedral, but you can see it in other locations too, between Thursday and Sunday this week.
And speaking of eggs, here’s some vocabulary for your next culinary adventure: rovell (egg yolk), clara (egg white), ou ferrat (fried egg) and ou dur (hard-boiled egg).
Have you tried making a truita de patates yet? A basic version only needs 4 patates (potatoes), 2 cebes (onions), 6 ous (eggs), oli d’oliva (olive oil) and sal (salt). If you'd like to practise your Catalan while learning new recipes, check out this Instagram reel.
We highly recommend following them for Catalan recipes explained in Catalan. Your vocabulary (and your stomach) will thank you!
